FRONTLINE HIV Forum Meeting April 2010

FRONTLINE HIV Forum Meetings:

Members: General Members Forum held at The Kobler Clinic, 4th Floor

Date: 6th April 2010
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Attendees: 10
Apologies: 6

CHAIR
It was decided unanimously by those present that the new chair of the forum would be P.D. This is to allow the previous chair J.O’C. to take over as lead on the ageing project.

AGEING PROJECT
The instrument has been checked and is ready for submission. Project lead is to ask Dr.Pozniak for a peer review.

NEW BUILD

The new ward extension has been signed off and work will commence soon. Jane Bruton, Clinical Nurse Lead for HIV, displayed an artist’s impressions of the new rooms and waiting area of the new ward. All present were impressed by these pictures which presented a modern and homely appearance. There still are decisions to be made as to where exactly equipment will go in the rooms.

THT PROJECT
The Kobler Clinic and Terrence Higgins Trust are to pilot a scheme where Health Trainers will provide peer support and education, which will take place in clinic. The hospital and patients will have scrutiny over the course of development of this new project.

DIRECTORATE MOVING FORWARD IN RECESSION
The rationalisation of services should provide consistency in treatment for patients, and will establish an individual care plan for patients which will apply to them, thus enabling resources to be put into patient care.

The forum was concerned that the one visit per year, to establish the care plan for patients with stable conditions, would break the pastoral link that the clinic provides for the newly diagnosed.

An anti retroviral medication sub committee had previously discussed the implications which arose from the last Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunist Infections. Some drugs are to come out of patent and will be able to be manufactured generically in the future. This will affect some patients whose treatment model will be reviewed at their next appointment with their consultant, to ensure that they have the best future proof regimen for them.

PUBLIC PATIENT ENGAGEMENT
The Pan London Consortium sub committee has quarterly meetings held in different venues. The forum would like to host a future “roadshow”, in July/September. A lecture theatre would be required for this day long event.

AOB
The annual Open Day will this year be held at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 8th May. All stalls will be laid out on the ground floor of the main building. Leaflets for patient involvement are to be placed on the St. Stephen’s Volunteer stall.

Thanks to Jane Bruton for her unwavering care and support. Apologies from Prof. Gazzard who was unable to attend.
